Hi Folks,

We are concidering having a backyard pool put in. I have a number of questions and if anyone has some answers or suggestions I sure would appreciate it.

We only want a small pool with a nice patio area surrounding it. Maybe a water fall or something as well.

1) Any recommended builders?

2) Any idea of price?

3) What permits are required and who gets them Me or the Builder?

4) Salt water or regular chlorine, which do you think is best?

5) Any suggestions at all.

We wil be coming down in early November and would like to have it put in soon after we arive. I know it might seem a little cool in the winter for folks living in Maricopa year round, but us Northern folks find it just right.

Any help will be appreciated.

Call Paddock Pools...you can't go wrong. They do everything including the permits. With their adds in the paper, you can be swimming in a short amount of time! We have chlorine..and with my sensitive eyes, I don't have a problem. Everyone is hurting, so you should get a great pool for a great price.

Call Blue Wave. The owner is local and you can NOT beat their customer service. Price wise they beat everyone else and I just had a one year inspection done on my home and they included the pool in the inspection. The Inspector even commented on how great a job Blue Wave did.

Any idea on price (Ball Park)? We don't want anything real big. Just something to relax in.

Our play pool is 3-5-4 feet deep and rock waterfall was about $29,400. Again that was 3 years ago. Pebbletec has different price points. We have 2 pumps and the inground cleaning system. It is very hard to compare. Now you should get lots without paying the high price. I feel a pool is a necessity not a luxury living in AZ.

Just like everything to do with the housing market, even pools have come down in price.

Our pool is a 3-4-5 and has a lot of extra patio.  We paid 23K (or close) and I know that if I were to put the same pool in right now it would be 4-5K less now.

PM me, if you would like to take a look at what we have.

I went with Blue Wave also. I posted some pics here All pebble sheen with a waterfall

http://85239.com/FORUM/tabid/60/view/topic/forumid/22/postid/91526/Default.aspx

We spent just under $25k. John at Bluewave was awesome, I priced out Shasta and Presidential. He went the the extra mile on construction techniques and had the most competitive price.

Thanks for th pics jhall. They sure look nice. Looks like a job well done.

One more question for you folks that have pools. Are you useing electricity or Natural Gas to heat them and What is the per month cost to heat during the winter time?

I imagine it can get quite expensive!

No heater here. Would love to have a heater. Would like more information from others, too.

Is it warm enough to use in the winter months without a heater?

Phantom,
Can't use the pool after the 2nd week in October, unless you are a polar bear. Can use the pool after April/May depending on the temperature.

Check out solar. I don't have one - a friend does. They love it. Keeps the pool usable just about year round. Only thing you need to run your filter system during the day in the cooler months to circulate water during sun hours. If you are on a TOU plan for electricity, you'll need to look at it.

Thanks Fritzy, that sounds like a good option. Hoever what is a "TOU" plan?

My pool doesn't have a heater... it got down to around 60 in the winter... too cold to swim in that's for sure.

Correct Red Dawn. We're on APS. We pay a lower rate for electricity 9pm to 9am, higher rate during the peak time Mon-Fri 9am to 9pm. So you wouldn't want to be running a 220 pool filter during the day on that plan.

So, I guess, the long and short of it is that it is too expensive to operate a pool in the winter time. Am I correct?

The Glennwilde public pools are heated are they not?

How about Hot tubs? They would obviously be less expensive to operate right?

Am I making any sense or do I sound like I am rambling? ...lol

We bought a 14000 gallon pool with a grotto/slide, salt system, infloor cleaning, pebble sheen added a few bells and wistles -- total cost was 34K. (Also got a free tile top island stainless barbecue) Without the Grotto 7K less - but it is really cool

I can send pix if you would like to see

Oh yeah, tried going swimming in March - Ice Cycles!!!!!!!!!
