Is "business" so slow now, we have to start recruiting? I would have to think if the parents were interested in your programs, they probably would have contacted you.. Just a thought

I see all of the churches advertising here or signs on the street.  If their message was that compelling, people would come to them and they  wouldn't need to market themselves.

But, back on topic.  If the Baptists are allowed to post flyers or handout tschirts/towels with religious sayings on them, it opens the door to every freakish religion/cult out there.

Scientology

Krishna

Catholics

LDS

FLDS

Satanic

Lutherans

Ok, this is getting scary. I've been to three different forum sections this morning and have agreed with everything RichTig has said on all of them. Should I be concerned here?

I have another question.

Would you feel different if it was the LDS church suing MUSD?

We probably would. In reality, though, we don't do "in your face" things like pushing this on a school to make a test case. We do direct marketing in person on your doorstep or in the street.

We don't advertise in the local papers or on this site. Most people know where the two (soon to be three) LDS church buildings are in Maricopa. Seminary classes for teens are always off-campus with school permission, and students do not get high school credit for it; they have to make up the credits they miss while taking seminary during school hours for four years. And I have personal knowledge that non-Mormons are welcome at seminary (whether schools approve for non-Mormons to attend during school hours may vary from school to school). I have taught seminary classes (in Maricopa they're before school) here in Maricopa and have had a number of non-Mormons attend with friends (one was a daughter of a born-again Christian teacher at Maricopa High School).

Given how people perceive us or want to perceive us, pushing a "Mormon" fundraiser on a school would be exactly the wrong approach, one that would not garner good will in the community, and we wouldn't do anything like that.

No, I really don't think I would. That said, I also don't think it would ever happen.

I hope they win, and it makes national news to stop discriminating against Christians.

Why? I would love for the day when being a Christian is illegal in the US, we are called to be hated and cursed.

I love how you keep trying to make the Christianity faith as failing. Well maybe it is actually, I mean when Priests have been molesting small boys for decades and the Pope and his Cardinals try to cover it up and make it go away. Yea I guess you could say Christian devotes are having a change in their faith.
Why don't we all worship the sun? I mean we can rely on the sun to bring us warmth and happyness. It brings life, and helps with the production of food. And I can guarentee you that it won't molest any of your children like most Christianity Priests do.

This is right up there with the most stupid things I have witnessed in my life. Were supposed to be improving our schools and this jerk takes it upon himself to sue the district. I would be embarassed to set foot inside any house of worship led by this man. Next he will tell us that after praying to Jesus he was instructed to do this. I think the Babtist Church in town should start looking for a new Pastor.

In my opinion, suing a school district isn't something a true Christian would do.  We are taught to be meek and humble and to render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's.

To be fair codebleu, would you go to a church that WASN"T let by this man?  Just because you don't like what he is doing, doesn't mean it's wrong.

You may want to consider attending the bible study.  Your reference is refering to paying taxes.

Apparentlhy he has been asked to refrain from certain activites that disrupt peoples rights as far as freedom of religion is concerned. My personal beliefs have nothing to do with his lack of consideration for others, especially every child that attends school in MUSD.

There are many ways to spread the Gospel of the Lord without interfering or diminishing the rights of others. As an educated man he should be aware of this. He has made a very big mistake and the only way to correct it is to apologize to the community and drop any lawsuits. Until then it will be difficult to forgive him!

I wish these religious zealots would just do what they preach... live and let live.. no one is "attacking" Christianity if the rules are the same for ALL...

lawsuits like this make me sick... everyone loses but the lawyers...

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH and pastor Jim Johnson should be ashamed...

I hope your "flock" can see above the ludicrousness of these actions and put you in your place...

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH sues MUSD for so-called discriminating against "Christianity"...

FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH can no longer donate god shirts and towels...

What these zealots don't see is the BIGGER picture.. The school district has a blanket policy for ALL religions (NOT just Christianity)...  If they make an exception for FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH.. They will have to make exceptions for ALL religions.. Mormon... Catholic.. Wiccan.. Satanic.. Flying Spaghetti Monster...etc...

Quit wasting our money on FRIVOLOUS lawsuits.. The only people who will win are the lawyers...

Excellent post. Thank you for the information.

Wrong!  It is referring to the authority rendered to government in general, not just one facet of it.  A good christian isn't a law breaker.  Period!

Christians have the same right to defend freedom of speech as anyone else.. Belay that, duty, not right.
