I moved here from Tucson just a few weeks ago and I was really excited that it was going to take us five minutes to get to the school from our house. Walking on the first day of school, it took us 15 minutes to get there and the traffic was horrendous. We come out of the neighborhood through that little park right across the street from Saddleback and we have to go all the way to the one crossing guard and all the way back to the entrance. I know it sounds lazy of me, but when the temperature is 115 outside, ten minutes feel like an eternity. Plus cars are still zooming by! I immediately called the school to complain. They blamed city hall and asked me to call them. I did. They told me that because Porter is so busy (they said 10,000 cars pass through Porter every day and with Wal-Mart, it'll get busier), that they cannot lower the speed limit. I think it's bull because Tucson has roads that are busier than that and they lower it! I brought up the idea of a bridge and they told me that the ones in charge of a "great separation" are the school board. He suggested for parents to band together and attend the school board meetings which according to him are twice a month. I'll tell you this though, I am not a happy parent and I don't want an accident to be the reason why something gets done about the situation. We should use this forum to form a group and make our voices heard! I copied this from the MUSD website: (Board meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month @ 6:00PM. Study Sessions are held during the first meeting of the month @ 5:00PM. Meetings are held at the Maricopa High School Room #1 Located at 45012 W. Honeycutt Ave. Maricopa, unless otherwise noted.) |
