10/06/2008 10:56 AM Alert

:

My name is Christy. I am a home owner  in The Lakes. It has come to my attention that the school board will be holding a meeting this Wednesday, October 8th at 6 pm at Pima Butte Elementary. During this meeting they will be discussing and possibly voting on turning the open land that was donated to them from the builders in The Lakes, near Global water, into a school bus and maintenance yard and a district warehouse! This is the land that is bordered by both Rancho El Dorado Parkway and Power Parkway. As a community, we need to show up in numbers and let the school board know this is NOT ok! This type on industrial building does not belong in a neighborhood!

Some things to consider even if your home does not have a clear view:

*this will be across for one of the nicest access to the lakes

*the smell of diesel will run threw the neighborhood both morning and afternoons

*the ware house and bus yard will most likely have a chain link fence topped off with barbwire and will have to have lights around the perimeter threw out the night

*the district currently has 48 buses and they need twice that

*those 48 buses will most likely use smith-enke as their dispatch route EVERY morning and EVERY afternoon (or even worse, Rancho El Dorado Pkwy)

*because the school district owns the property, the city can only give their opinion but has NO authority to stop them, so it is up to us

Once again the meeting is on Wednesday, October 8th at 6 pm at Pima Butte Elementary. When they have their call to the public, we need to be there in numbers to protect our neighborhood!

Please, if you can not attend the meeting go to www.musd20.org and flood the board with e-mails. Or call the school’s Superintendent at 520-568-5100..

Your neighbor,

Christy

Sounds like the perfect place for a bus barn, near the kids.

I plan on living forever, so far so good.

I'll be there to support this location unless your willing to supply a better location free of charge to the school board.

If the builders in The Lakes DONATED this land to the school board, I am quite sure it was not with the intention of having a BUS BARN on this property, but for an actual school for the children living in this area! Building a bus barn in a residential area is inappropriate and I for sure will be at that meeting to voice my opposition. (Future home owner in The Lakes)

Dear geewiz,

I understand that the school board has a duty to make the best financial choices for the schools. But I believe that this decision goes further then that. The argument of the noise, air, and light pollution inside a residential area alone is argument enough. I also do not think it is right for the government (that is what the school board is) to impact so many homes with a depreciation of value just because it may be their cheapest choice. Also, in the long run it will cost the district and city additional funds for extra gas and road improvements.

Mr. North1821…I don’t know of a site of hand. I just found out about this less then a week ago by chance. I do have to believe that there is a better option. Something that will not be surrounded by homes. Something that would be a more direct shot to the main road. Some place that has been zoned industrial. The school district is the only identity that could put something like this there. All other identity would have to follow zoning laws.

respectifully,
chhere

May I call you in the mornings to ask if the busses are on time?

I think there is a difference from driving past it compared to living next door to it. I am a little unclear, are you talking about the land in the lakes being on the outside of town limits.....if so, that is not true. Although it may seem like thats where Maricopa ends, The Lakes will be the largest community when it is completed. Obviously that is down the road, but there will be over 8000 homes here.

Respectfully,

Christy

I don't know the logic behind the district considering that location for a bus barn, but it is probably the most economical shovel-ready site available.

Look at the bright side.  If the property is not utilized, it will probably become a dusty, weed infested eye sore.  Remember the property where Butterfield Elementary School is now located?

They will landscape it and put some bushes up.  You won't even know there is a bus depot there.

Anyone know whatever became of this? My parents live in RED right next to the proposed bus depot so I'd be interested to find out if this was passed by the school board or not.  Luckily, I'm no where near it, but I'd like to find out for them.

Thanks in advance.

They didn't make a decision or vote on it at the meeting. The city made a presentation to the board and suggested other locations that the district could lease or buy that would be more appropriate than the lakes. There was a nice turnout of residents and a few people respectfully addressed the board opposing the Lakes site. It seems like the board agrees that The Lakes is not an appropriate location due to the lack of arterial road access and the fact of the location being in a subdivision.
