Alert | | No. It protects it, read it again. I'm sure if you did your own handmade sign it'd be fine but since Alan is asking people to contact him, he's ordering signs he is essentially forming a PAC. Rules govern PACs. Not my doing. Not yours either.

Alert | Thank Phil.. interesting read.. I'll wait for the response from Alan now as to what PAC he is associated with..
To those who oppose Q5.. what is your solution for the future regarding Maricopa becoming a self-sustaining community? rather than another Queen Creek?
If your position is simply "not now" or "wait until the economy gets better".. do you think things will be less expensive at that time?
I'm not a fan of taxes.. but I'm also not a fan of having this town lay stagnant for the next 2 years.. especially when we can get the ball rolling on making our town more attractive to companies that will want to locate here.. We currently HAVE the manpower here to attract major companies... what we don't have is a plan for sustaining growth and KEEPING people here..
If you think people are leaving Maricopa now.. wait until there's been no significant developments in over 2 years..
having a Wal-Mart will not be our savior..

Alert | No it's not Robert. The former city manager made a sweet deal for the Wal Mart developers were some of the taxes are reimbursed for the road improvements. Before you slam that deal, this is an economical development tool that lots of cities use.

What do you mean Phil. the city had somthing with all the measures to have Wal-Mart in that spot and the city didn't receive their cut I know we paid some for it and that's a safe bet its great . Also it does give jobs for people out here and I don't want to slam any deal. As long as it betters Maricopa and the people that live here.

Cactus Rob,
With all due respect, I am a voter.
Regards,
Carl Diedrich My mistake, Carl. I was not aware the Arizona Revised Statutes permit such activity. To me, in situations like this, there is always the appearance of a conflict of interest, "9-500.14 and 11-410 do not prohibit elected officials from speaking out individually regarding measures on the ballot"

Alert | Carl, yes bonds have debt. That is was I'm against. I disagree with the premise that cities in growth most MUST incur debt.
The argument that we must pay interest is based on the fallacy(IMO) that the City must have debt to grow. The fear is the town will remain stagnant if the bond doesn't pass. We don't know if it will or it won't either way. Again breaking down the cost per month is a non- starter for me. It's easy to spend other people's money. The hard part is caring for it as one's own. I would like to see all the "yes" supporters offer to pay for the share of the "no" supporters. My guess is that the number of yes's would drop. Obviously, this can't be done, but I say that to make a point.
Carl, I appreciate your follow up with the questons I had. I appreciate the work it takes to run a City government. I challenge the brain trust that is at our City's disposal to have a plan that does not require a bond. If this is something that is desired that badly, a legitimate way that avoids interest can be found. I would be one to support THAT idea.
I'm still voting "no" on q#5. In "good times or bad times" my position would be the same.

Alert | The city council wasted $70,000 repaving the entrance to RED. How can we expect them to use $65,500,000 wisely?

Good point, I'm not sure we need 4 foodball/soccer fields right now. 30,000 people moved down here without them. It's not a deal breaker. We can revistit in 2 years when we vote again. Or maybe just vote on one thing like an aqautic center, not 10 things at once.

I don't like to be negative, but.........I give that Simon/Neo thing 2 days and it will be broken and 1 week before it gets tagged up one said and down the other. The kids that hang out in the parks or in the parking lots really haven't been raised very well. They have no respect for other people's property. Maybe the Parks and Rec can have a parenting class for the parents of the kids who are breaking into cars and houses and tagging anything that does't move.

Alert | Read this before you vote! Obama's Global Poverty Act (Senate Bill #2433) is almost certain to pass if he is elected and the Democrats retain control of the House and Senate. Our elected representatives, Democrat and Republican alike, have tried to keep this secret because they don't want their approval rating to drop any lower. The Senate has delayed voting on it until next year. That gives us more time to email them and tell them to kill this bill. www.ibdeditorials.com/IBDArticles.aspx
