Alert | So you believe that one city park is adequate for 35,000 people? We have no aquatics center, no trails, no dog park...only 2 baseball fields and 1 soccer field to service programs for over 800 kids....
I'm confused that you think we have enough.
What do you think this city needs? | | For Maricopa's Future www.yesonquestion5.com November 4th Check back for continued updates

Alert | I think that's plenty. Do you expect all 35k people to use Pacana PArk at the same time? The schools all have facilities that can be utilized by the Parks/Rec programs. There's a walking trail, of sorts, by the wash in between the Villages and Province. There are also miles of trails in the greenbelts. I think we should use what we have, before we go spending more money, we don't have, on new stuff. Libraries are obsolete. There's a new thing called the internet. Check it out, its cool.

Alert | NO to SPENDING! NO NO NO All of the housing areas have parks, greenbelts and such, which we already pay for. Saying there's only one park in town, is not really the truth.

The truth is you display little knowledge of what Parks and Library departments provide. It goes beyond facilities. It is also about programs. Libraries are far from dead. The internet is a long way from replacing the role they serve.
The local community green zones are not a replacement. Most don't contain sports fields, and they are for the use of local residents only. Most would probably not want to shoulder the liability and maintanence costs they would have to assume if the started acting as a public park. This bond is an investment in your properties values. People want to move where they have ameneties. No ameneties meeans we are going to be less attractive to buyers. And for the buyers that do move here alack of programs can lead to bored youth which leads to more problems. Yes to spending on our services and no to myopic thinking.

Alert | | I agree that we need more parks. People are looking for skate parks, aquatic centers, public baseball fields, and so forth. They can do nothing but help our property values and bring a lot of fun and activity closer to home.

Alert | Posted By RichTig on 07/31/2008 5:56 PM Well, you people are so smart. Let's build everything all at once. Its just money. SPEND SPEND SPEND No one is saying it's going to be done all at once, this is a long term project, relax...here is some info. Projects will follow recommendations in the Parks, Trails and Open Space Master Plan. Projects were defined using project assessments, citizen surveys and based on NRPA (National Recreation and Park Association) standards for levels of service.
Construction of recreation center;
Construction of aquatics center;
Construction of main library;
Playground and building improvements;
Outdoor security lighting;
Land acquisition;
Construction of lighted baseball fields;
Construction of lighted softball fields;
Construction of lighted soccer fields;
Construction of lighted football fields;
Construction of dog park(s)
Construction of a skate park
Construction of reading garden, community garden, outdoor pavilions;
Creation of new pic nic areas.
Creation of a senior programs/services at recreation center;
Please note that the Maricopa City Council will not authorize the full bond amount at the onset. It is important for residents to understand that the first release of bond, will not occur until a permanent revenue stream is identified to make the bond payment. Additionally, it is the policy of the City Council to not release bond money for capital projects unless the budget supports the operation of the facility to be built. To that end, the first release of bonds could occur as early as the 2009-2010 fiscal year. | | For Maricopa's Future www.yesonquestion5.com November 4th Check back for continued updates

Alert | | Java Lover you must be on some good stuff this week. I see a complete controlled project, not something Marty wants so he can keep is job. Show me his credentials and experience to handle a project this large. I have property thirteen miles from the City Hall. plus the extra to wherever they want to put everthing. Show me a planned project in black and white, otherwise I am going to support the rejection group with full force. I don't want the city too put a quote "home equity" hickie on any of my properties. PRIVATIZE P/R IF YOU WANT IT SO BAD.

Alert | You see a project that will take 15 to 20 years to build, not at one time. This bond isn't about what Marty wants. The bond is what the community needs. You do not have children and you do not live in city limits. You don't get that perspective. As for credentials, the fact that Pacana was built before a city hall and now it's being expanded speaks volumes. We're getting a new library and the old library is being turned into a teen center and skate park. The parks department has cobbled together clumps of cow dung to make things work for the residents. This bond is critical for the success of the city.

Do you have any children? If the library is so outdated why is it full every day. When was the last time you expanded you mind and read a book. What do you do in your spare time? Would you rather drive to Chandler or Phoenix for something that could be here. Also, have you not thought about the more things that this town gets the more your house will be worth. I'm definetly voting for it.

Alert | I read books all the time, ones I buy. I have plenty of things to keep me busy that don't require a skate park. I didn't realize I was buying a home in the Socialist Republic of Maricopa. Thank god for Province. Because you know they all vote and there is no way they will vote for a skate park and more kids stuff.

Alert | RichTig- Don't be so sure about Province. I know of several Province residents with grandkids who live here in Maricopa. They would love to have a skate park and recreation center here in town for them. They fully support the bond.

Why would you SPEND SPEND SPEND on books when you could visit the library and SAVE SAVE SAVE?
