Alert | Well, I dont know if the temp lights at Honeycutt are completed, but they are active and within an hour of the workers leaving, it has come very close to claiming its first victims. As we traveled on Honeycutt moments ago we started to slow down as we approached the temp light because it was red. Cars were crossing Honeycutt from Senita and Villages. Before we got to the light it turned green so we proceeded through the intersection and 2 cars continued crossing in front of us causing us to screech our brakes, nearly avoiding a 3 car pile-up. My first thought was "These idiots are running a red light", but to my suprise (not really suprised considering the half-a$$ed way we do things here), there is NO lights facing Senita and Villages so the crossing traffic has no idea if Honeycutt has a red or green light. WAKE UP BILLINGSLY!!! Thats not going to work, and if the lights arent complete yet, then DONT ACTIVATE THEM IN ONE DIRECTION ONLY!! Another simple problem screwed up even more by our great city officials....

Alert | | I didn't even realize this when I saw the light today....but I knew something seemed weird. Wow. Yeah, I don't quite understand why things are set up the way they are. For instance, why is there a protected left turn only at 347 and CG HWY? Why isn't it a light like the one on 347 and Smith-enke where you can turn left on an arrow and a regular green? That seems pretty stupid considering during rush hour that lane backs up so far I can't even turn left onto Honeycutt without a wait...and usually there isn't a ton of traffic heading out of town in the afternoon, so the problem could easily be cleared up if more than a couple of cars were allowed to turn left!! Or why is there a light at every single subdivision entrance off of 347? Seriously, we have more stop lights in a tiny little stretch than I've ever seen before. I'm glad you didn't get in a wreck....so is there anything signaling to pedestrians when it's okay to cross the street? I mean, isn't that the purpose of the lights? How are kids supposed to know the light is about to change and cars will be moving? My head hurts.

Alert | | Actually there are lights for the cross traffice for Senita and VRED. They are facing the traffic on that side of the road instead of opposite traffice like most lights are. Hmmm sounds confusing. The light for Senita traffic is on the Senita side facing them and the VRED light is on the VRED side. If that is still confusing, just take a closer look next time. | | Proud Momma of 2 beautiful boys!!!

Alert | I thought the temp lights were a great idea when they were announced. Now that I've seen them installed, I'm truly unimpressed.
Do they really have to put them in the road? Are we going to be minus lanes on each side until the permanent lights are installed? Yeesh.

Alert | Seems to me there was an awful lot of bellyaching going on before the temp light was installed because "no one was thinking of the children". Because of all the incessant complaining, a temporary light was installed now, as opposed to waiting another year for the permanent one. Soooo.... you got your light! Stop complaining about it! You can't have it both ways by complaining about not having one, and then continue to complain about it now that you have it.
As for the problems that may be occurring with the light, well, you all know what happens when you rush this city on anything. Problems should have been expected, and they shouldn't surprise anyone.

I'm sorry... I must have missed the post where someone was concerned over having a stop light.. and then pissed and moaned when a temp was installed.. please elaborate.. unless your comment is directed at the initial poster.. who doesn't have a clue in regards to a mole-hole and their own bunghole.. because Senita.. last time I went through.. had a light to regulate them...

I thought the same thing until I realized how it was set up. In order to see the lights, you must be well behind the line.
I like the lights. With a strip mall, a school, Tortosa, Glennwilde, VRED, and the three Senitas emptying onto two lane Honeycutt, sometimes the wait to cross is very long. | | Poster formerly known as Sassafrass.

Alert | I hate to say this because I for one love the lights...I don't have to wait 10 minutes make a left turn anymore onto Honeycutt.
However they were installed wrong...they should have gone on the rocks off the street as to not impair the flow of traffic. just another lazy contractor who didn't want to do his job properly. Any damage to the landscaping would have been very minimal. and we would have had all 4 lanes of traffic in each way.

You are 100% right! They marched for the light and now they still aren't happy. Those moms need to get their signs back out and blockade Honeycutt, again.

Alert | | So why didnt they just make it a school zone like the surrounding 3 sides of the school? Then the money used for the lights could have been used on something else. AZsanslinger if it bores you that much maybe you should not respond. Or is this your life?

Because the "school zone" isn't safe enough. They NEEDED the light. Now they have it and still aren't happy. Them are some bitter people.

Alert | As one of the people that is responsible for getting this light, I am extremely happy. I watched yesterday as kids were able to cross without worrying about being hit by oncoming traffic.
Regarding cars and the lights. Look hard. You will see a BIG sign that says "Stop Here On Red'. There is an arrow pointing down. The arrow points to a white line. If you stop there, you will see a big light in front of you. If you have passed this line and don't see the light, you are in the intersection legally.
Anyhow. There may be a couple of kinks with the positioning and I am having this looked into. (neat, huh? Doing stuff instead of just bellyaching)
Regarding the loss of lanes.... Tough. Live with it or go around. Safety should come first. This is a temporary situation that has a long term solution. I think the last complaint thread regarding traffic flow during a repair was when the 347 was being repaved. Oh how terrible that was... LOL... In the end, how many fatalities have there been since its completion?

Alert | The people of Senita have been whining for a stoplight for years. They saw the school as an excellent reason to accelerate the light that was already planned.

Alert | If a permanent light is set to go in, why put temp light? Couldnt a crossing guard be hired for the time being? How long until a permanent light is in place, or is the temp one suppose to buy some time......
The city knew for a long time that a school was going to be built there. Did they not think of "safety first"! The permanent light should have been constructed while the school was going up. Honeycutt is a busy road-

Alert | For those illiterate few who cant read what was actually posted. There was no complaint about putting a temp light there. The post says that at the time I drove through, there was NO light at the cross street coming out of Senita and cars were crossing traffic out of Senita while Honeycutt had a green light. It is stupid to indicate a green light to traffic if the crossing light isnt in place indicating red now isnt it? This wasnt a debate about the need for a light. If there are crossing lights there now..GREAT, but they werent when this happened earlier the first day. As for AzSandSlinger you just showed to be the most illiterate of all. You obviously werent there when I was because there was no light coming out of Senita at that time. Do you understand the phrase "At that time"? Are you sure? "At that time" means when I was there, not when you were there later. I dont want to confuse you.

Alert | I am not discounting your account, Cleanup. I shot photos of the intersection at 12:57pm on Friday and all 4 lights were up. The limit lines were in place and the 'stop here on red' signs were in place. At the time I shot these photos, the inspector was making his final adjustments and all forur systems were running and were synced up. I am not sure what time you drove through, the post time seemed to be at least an hour after the major work was completed. Your post seemed to indicate that there was still a light missing at the intersection.
"there is NO lights facing Senita and Villages so the crossing traffic has no idea if Honeycutt has a red or green light."
My photos of the actual intersection at 12:57-1:30pm show something different than what you posted. (PM me to see the story and the photos)

Alert | Yes, Cleanup.. they installed the light there on Friday.. and as Mallard stated.. He took pictures 2 hours before you posted.. which had all four lights there... maybe you should have taken a second look after construction was completed (you know, after those people in the white construction trucks wearing hard hats have left) instead of just making an assumption that there would be no light for Senita.. and then showing your arse with your ill-informed rant..
