FREAKS. Cross the damn street and pick your kids up. Twice this week I was nearly hit by an oncoming car because there were parents parked on both sides of a very small street (Meghan in Senita 1). Visibility is greatly diminished and only one car can get through at a time even though it is meant to have two lanes. While you laze in your car, yapping on the cell or reading your paper, you are obstructing traffic for the hundreds of people who need to get through that street to get into the labyrinth that is our subdivision.

The school is across the street. Work it out.

for the jr high... we have them parked on both sides of our street.... and they don't pay attention when they are u turning around either... seen a lady in an exculade ( sp) too big for her... almost hit a kid crossing the road and then a car that was parked on the side of the road... think our HOA needs to put up some no parking signs there..... maybe even call the school district and say something about sending a letter home NO Parking in the neighborhoods roads.... these are inpatient parents who do not want to wait in the pick up line to get in and out of the school...

In VRED, they park on both sides of the street at bus time too.  Its impossible to drive between them when there's oncoming traffic.  The walk to the bus stop would do most of the ladies good.  Yeah, I am talking to you, fatty in the silver Sienna.

Maybe you should pull up behind them and honk like you are waiting for them to go so that you can go.

There's a problem in VRED with parents parking on the streets to pick up their "walking" children too. Rather than drive over to the school and use the drive through lane to pick up their children, many parents park across the street from the crosswalks and wait for their children there. This creates quite a hazard for the true walkers who have to cross the neighborhood streets without being able to see around all these parked cars. If that's not dangerous enough, there are also the parents who throw their car into reverse to pull away from the curb just as you're trying to cross the street corner to corner right behind them. And there are those that flip u-turns without realizing that there are children crossing the street right behind them. I walk from my home to the crosswalk to meet my children every day after school, and it's so frustrating to see some of these parents endangering so many children just because they don't feel like waiting in the drive through pick up lane.

doesn't make sense to me? aren't the senita people the ones who screamed and ranted about their childrens safety? doesn't driving to pick up your walking student defeat the purpose of having them walk? i remember someone saying on the post regarding the crosswalk and traffic light that our children today are high risk for obesity. well i believe obesity affects adults also. so do yourself and your kids a favor and walk. god gave us two legs to walk and move.
by the way cholo...i agree with you but please remember that that fatty did her exercise today by walking to her car. : )~

ok, this is my observation, the majority of the kids getting in these cars, are kids that are not in compliance with the MUSD dress code, and if you look at the bus dropping these kids, it says KYRENE School District. SO these aren't the lazy parents or kids, these are the parents that think the city they CHOSE to live in is not good enough to educate their children. Just observe tomorrow if the kids get in with uniform style clothes or just tshirts.

You are right 7195rich, I am one of those parents who parks to pick up my son from his Kyrene bus. Well, I did unitl we moved into VRED two weeks ago. I parked there because the bus didn't come to my neighborhood and he couldn't walk the five plus miles out to Tortosa where we lived. You are also right that I did choose to move to Maricopa SIX years ago and no MUSD is not good enough for my children. When we moved here from Chandler, my kids did not attend the public schools there either. We CHOSE a different route for our children and I drove them to Tempe. We continued to do this for the first couple years after moving here. We were not the only family in Maricopa attending the school in Tempe. There was even a family that drove from Casa Grande (parents worked in Tempe). School choice is an amazing thing in Arizona. We did try MUSD for a couple of years after I decided to stay at home instead of commuting every day. Two years is all we needed to see they were not what we were looking for. So yes, I send my eighth grader on a bus everyday to a school that he and I both love. My fifth grader at Legacy is begging to go to Kyrene next year, but since we have a school right here in Maricopa that accomodates middle schoolers, he may just stay put. I love Maricopa, but unfortunately the school district did not meet the needs of my children. It happens everywhere, not just here. These decisions are made every day in every city.

How about reporting parking problems to the police department? It is their job to patrol the streets.

I see this is a problem especially on busy roads! My son is at Saddleback and I get annoyed there cause I come early to park in a actual parking space and I wait while late comers park every which way making it hard for everyone else to get out! Today a car was right behind me not moving cause they were waiting for their kid! Its highly annoying!

Now Saddle back isn't on a busy road yet till that wal mart opens then I am sure it will be busier and they park all along the streets like that too.

I had the most amazing experience yesterday with a mother who was parked at a stop sign waiting to get her daughter. I pulled up behind her because her daughter was getting in the truck. Once the bus moved I figured she would pull out onto Rancho El Dorado parkway since she was parked at the stop sign. NO NO NO! Boy was I wrong. She put the truck in reverse and started to yell for me to back up or go around. Now mind you SHE was blocking the road with her big truck. If I would have went around or started to I would have been hit by the cars that were turning on that street. So I sat there and waited. She finally flipped me off and decided to do a Uturn in the middle of RED Parkway. I guess it was all my fault though!
