Alert | I was told by PRL that the coaches were getting their rosters this last week and practices were to start tomorrow, 10/13. I haven't heard from a coach yet. anyone know when we'll hear? I also heard that Pacana is just barely reseeding this week. How will that impact the soccer season again? I remember last year, we had a game a few days before Christmas due to the delays the grass posed and then some weather delays on top of that. Thanks!

Alert | | I was wondering the same thing. I still haven't gotten a phone call either. I am going to call tomorrow (not sure if they are closed for Columbus Day) and find out if the coaches have gotten the rosters yet and see if I can get the name and number of the coach.

Alert | According to the city, the coaches meeting is Tuesday and the coaches will be getting their rosters then. Parents will hear from coaches later in the week. As far as Pacana Park being reseeded, the first two seccer games will be played at local schools. The coaches will have all of the details and will give the parents more info at the first practice.

Alert | Bingo, thanks Lady K!
A lot of people ask us: Why do you overseed? The fields at Pacana Park take a beating throughout the year from sports use, general use and event use. It's our job to ensure the fields remain in a safe and playable shape. In fact, if we don't do that we're not providing you the best customer service we can.
We're excited to partner with H&N Landscape on this project as they donating some seed, fertilizer and manpower to this project.
As for soccer, if you have any questions please call David at 520/316.6964 or email him at david.aviles@maricopa-az.gov

Alert | David told me that coaches were getting their rosters this past week. So since I hadn't heard anything and he had told me practices were to start this week, I was wondering. thank you for clearing this up. I need to know soon when our practices will be, as we have not been able to make any other activity commitments because we are waiting on soccer to start up. I wouldn't want to sign the kids up for an activity just to find out that they can't go because of soccer, you know?
i will keep my phone close starting wednesday I suppose.

Alert | | Anyone else not get a call yet? I started to get worried yesterday when a boy in my class said he already had practice, but I decided to be patient and wait it out yesterday. I figure I'll call the city on Monday if I don't hear anything this weekend. I grew a little more concerned this morning while picking up my Bountiful Baskets produce and overheard other parents talking about their practice this past week. Do these people just have super eager coaches???

Alert | I'd say give it until Mon. to call PRL. My daughter's team won't have their 1st practice until Wed. Some coaches may have decided to take advantage of the first week, albeit short notice. Other coaches may have waited until the weekend to make contact. I wasn't at the coaches meeting this time around so there may have been a couple that didn't get the practice schedule until later in the week.
I look forward to another fun season!!

Alert | | I went to the PRL yesterday because I still have not heard from my sons coach. They told me that many of the coaches haven't picked up their rosters yet. If anyone knows any of the coaches that haven't picked up their rosters, please tell them to pick their rosters. Games begin next Saturday. It would be nice to have at least one practice in before the games start.

Alert | Just to update, we got a call after the first practice. We have moved since we last participated in Parks and Rec and didn't realize they don't automatically change your contact info. in the computer when you enroll. They must have typed my son's name in and when he was in the system already, they disregarded the new address, etc. on the registration form. I doubt we'll run into this situation again since I hope not to move again until all the kids are in college. Just any FYI, if you move be sure to let the receptionist know when you register for PRL to update your information. A huge thank you to David Aviles for getting back to me so quickly and updating our info!!!

Just wait until they also have to manage an aquatic center and skate park and dog park ..........ugh....... You can't fault Parks and Rec for the VOLUNTEER coaches not communicating with players/parents. Once a coach makes a committment to coach, the responisibility that comes with it is assumed by the coach. If it weren't for coaches the programs wouldn't have a chance for success.
Unfortunately, things happen when coaches aren't willing or able to commit as needed and/or there are more coaches needed. This is where parents(and even those without players) could INVEST in our community. BE A Coach. If your child's team has a coach, volunteer to assist. One could be an assistant coach and/or team parent. As a coach myself, I have appreciated all the help I could get, it makes it that much more enjoyable for everyone. Isn't that the purpose? Parks and Rec does a fabulous job, but it only as good as the people involved. That isn't solely city staff, but also the volunteers. I know PRL is grateful for the coaches and others who put in their time to make the programs possible and enjoyable for the players and their families.. | | My answer WAS "NO" to Q#5 and Q#1.
