Alert | Sorry, I think we are now off topic, which is just dandy with me, but back to the original question:
I pick up my Starbucks at Bashas, which is what attracts me to the store. I cannot stand the crowds at Fry's... It makes me claustrophobic, BUT.... in all honesty, the sales are usually way better and I do end up shopping there most often.

Alert | which also brings up another point frapp....
And, based on your name I'm gonna guess I already know your answer, but whats the big deal about starbucks??? I drink Tully's most of the time, and recently have had both starbucks and another coffee shop and both times I was dissapointed and wished I had my peppermint bellacino from Tully's. I dunno, I'm a northwesterner, and most nw'erners are serious about their coffee....but I just recently started (I realized that I dont like hot coffee- only iced) and can't figure out whats so special about starbucks. Don't get me wrong, I do like their coffee....I guess for the price, I can't really tell the difference. SIN, I know. lol....coffee drinkers don't kill me! | | Formerly DRich

Alert | I think it's just like coke vs. pepsi or whatever else... a personal preference. I tried drinking Tully's version of the frappuccino and I took one sip and threw it in the trash. To me, it was that bad! I wish I liked QTs version or McDonald's... Lord knows in this economy I can't afford to drink the frappuccinos like I'd like to!

We buy Starbucks Frappuccino in 12 packs of 9.5 oz. bottles for $13.99, but is frequently on sale for $10.99 per 12 pack. Costco sells only Vanilla, Caramel and Coffee flavors.

Alert | I like Basha's because their meat is superior to Fry's---the other store I buy meat is Costco.....that's it. I am very picky about my meat and I can tell the difference since I'm a Texas gal.
I don't mind paying Bashas prices on meat because of the quality but everything else they have is 1/8 more than Fry's and that adds up---and the size of their items are smaller per price.
They don't sell the larger sizes of their products where at Fry's you can get the larger sizes of shampoo etc.
That's the big deal about Fry's and Bashas at my house
My hubby always goes to Bashas to pick up 3-4 items after work because it is quick in and quick out.
But we do the bulk at Fry's because we save a lot of $ over the month
But now Walmart is coming--- and I will go there but no way would I eat their meat.

Alert | | I will not buy meat from Walmart...they are expensive and the quality is blah. I have bought many steaks from Frys and I have to say they were yummy and juicy. When I found them on sale, I made sure to stock up. | | Huh? CG?

Alert | I shop at Frys because of their low prices......but the biggest complaint and THE FACT THAT THEIR GENERAL MANAGER NEEDS TO BE FIRED, is that they are the WORST FRYS IN EXISTANCE WHEN IT COMES TO STOCKING THEIR ITEMS....Cheese and rice, talk about bad management, the amount of money that they could make instead they have poorly stocked items in regards to ads coming out.
My wife's job is a health inspector and she talks to other fry's managers when she inspects, when the subject of Maricopa comes up, they just nod their head about the one in maricopa which is infamously named as the worst fry's in terms of properly stocked items

Alert | I'm not going to argue about the "worst fry's in terms of properly stocked items." I'll agree the it's a challenge for the store to keep popular items stocked. That is easier for the other stores consider the Maricopa is the best as far as sales volume. This isn't only among Fry's, this among all Kroger stores. Hence, the lines one encounters. This is also an infamous subject among Fry's stores.
Could they do a better job? I'll be the first to tell you they can. However, my guess is the other stores would have the same challenges with that amount of volume, too. This is simply because of the systems that are used. There may be variances per store, but the policy and procedure comes from Fry's Corporate here in Phoenix or Kroger itself.
Kroger is a leader among traditional grocery stores. The larger the ship, the more difficult is to change its direction. Many of the processes have been in place many many years that one forgets why they even do it.
Full Disclosure: I am a former employee and a current shareholder of Fry's parent company, Kroger.

Alert | I didn't mean to sound that I hated frys or anything, I just meant that they are very poor in their managment when it comes to stocking full items in preparation for ads and the weekend. There is absolutely no excuse why this is such an ongoing trend with that store. Their trucks show up on time, everytime, and their orders are always far shorter than expected or met. You think their sales volume is larger than most Frys or Kroger stores in the state.....imagine if they had everything in stock like most frys around the valley. The manager that my wife spoke to, knows all about the maricopa frys management and their indecisive and poor judgements, it's riduculous and word has it that they were flying corporate and few heads are going to roll and be replaced because of the potential for more sales revenue that was lost due to out of stocked items. I used to stock for Frys and have worked at several busy locations.....I also have stock in Kroger.

Alert | Did you ever work at Fry's Marketplce Maricopa, AZ? If you did we may know each other.
I understand that your saying that if the shelves were stocked more, they would have more sales and higher volume than they do now. I don't think that is a false statement. I went to buy something and it was out. Of course, it was later in the evening and it was a special.
What caught my eye was the special. However, it was no surprise it was out. Not because I think the Fry's has poor management(I'm do not mean to imply that it is or that it isn't.), but because it is a high demand item that Maricopians will clear the shelves. By definition, a popular item, will be hard to keep in stock.
Then again, one must know there are items that don't sell as expected. There were countless times when employees are told to overfill a shelf with an item because "it would sell" and sure enough it would be there the next day and extra would be in the back. Then more was already ordered and ..... Well inventory sitting in the backroom is wasted money. The shopper isn't buying it and the money that was used to purchase it could have been growing in a different manner until the item was needed.
I don't disagree that they can do a better job. In fact, I said that in my other post. I know they had people come in to address this problem and had changes in management along the way. Well, it doesn't matter who is there if the same thing is being done. The system itself is the issue.
I had my ideas while I was there and they fell on (almost)deaf ears. There is only so much they feel can be done. Everyone answers to a boss. As I said in my other post, the bigger the ship, the harder it is to change direction. People don't know why they do the things they do. They just do it because that's the way its always been done.
These "problems" would be in the other stores, too. Ironically however, they don't come out as much. why not? Because they DON"T have the sales volume that Maricopa does. It isn't the people per se, it is the system. People from Fry's/Kroger come in to try to solve the problem and fix management. The problem isn't the people, it is the system. The flaws are more easily seen due to the volume. Everyone else believes they could fix it because they don't have these "problem." So they do the same system they use at the slower store and they can't do it either.
So yes, they may turnover a brand new management team, however my guess is the "problem" will be the same. They are trying to fix a problem by doing the way they do it in other stores, which doesn't work, but they don't know it because they haven't seen the volume like Maricopa.
Then more heads roll, new people come in , and the cycle continues.
Believe you me, there was(is) nothing more frustrating than the inefficiencies. I'm sure there are some in management that have the same frustrations. It's one of those things that go with any business. On the bright side, I like to shop Fry's. I do have a greater of appreciation for the work involved and the people there. They do a good job in my book. Is it perfect, no. But, I know they do the best they can with what they have and I'm always treated with exceptional customer service. I shop there because I do find what I want most of the time. The other times, I just wait a few days and I am grateful that other Maricopian choose Fry's,too.

I plan on living forever, so far so good. Cigarettes are stupid. If you are going to smoke something, it might as well get you high.

Alert | leon...you mean no discounts on our coffee working late night shifts...but having to pay for them LOL...... I see what you're saying.......I did not work at the maricopa location, but I did work on the RAY and 101 in chandler for a little stint.....well, that and going to school and working another job awhile back in the day. But I'm sure the kroger gripes are easily shared....like you suggesting better ideas, and only getting ignored. Big ad items like flour, canned vegetables, frozen pot pies etc. etc. oh man, the nights I prayed to leave the job, and my hands from all the boxes we touched.....I swear, after I left frys.....my hands looked like they were made out of plastic! It was litterally worn down. Don't even talk to me about the socialist govt. there....oh, I mean management and how crappy it was....but oh well, work was work right...wrong, not at frys lol. I also loved picking up the slack for lazy stockers who believed that after stocking 1/8 of an aisle, they could smoke for half and hour, come back and continue....sigh.

Alert | I do shop at Fry's because their ads are way better than Bashas and they have a better selection of items in general. But, I have pretty much stopped shopping at the Maricopa Fry's because most of their sale items are out of stock and it doesn't matter if it is the first day of the sale or mid-week.
As for employees and Customer Service, pretty much forget it. I still don't know why that red haired old lady at "Customer Service" desk has not been fired. She has to be the worst Customer Service representative for the company; she is rude and really just does not seem to like to interact with customers. They need to have 2 Customer Service Representatives at the desk at all times. Everytime I'm there there is around 5 to 6 people in line with someone inevitably doing a Western Union transaction.
Kroger really needs to get this Fry's in shape. I'm not sure if they have quite realized how much money they lose everyday when their ad items are not available. I will not buy an alternate product. I'll just go to Bashas if I really need it. | | I previously had 1 trillion posts!
