I'm new here. I've only been to Basha's, where there hasn't ever been a long line or wait. I always park right up front with ease.

My husband went to Fry's the other day and said the line was down the entire aisle. Then someone told me Fry's is the busiest Kroger store in the country.

Wtf, what's so great about Fry's? Is the gas special really worth it to you, to stand in line for 2 hours? Or am I missing something?

Some of the prices are better than Basha's. I personally dislike going there, the lines are awful and the layout of the store is not user friendly when it's crowded.

The popularity of Fry's came long before the gas station. It happened immediately upon the opening 3 years ago. This Fry's is the highest volume of sales. If the word is correct, this Bashas is the highest volume Bashas store.

I don't think the line take that long, I try to avoid rush times. actually like seeing the parking lot full, the store crowded, and hearing the registers "beep" away. It's a different perspective as a shareholder.:o)

The gas discount works because I already shop there.

The longest wait times I've experienced is 15/20 minutes. Those have been rare. It seems like two hours when one is accustomed to no lines at all.

My answer WAS "NO" to Q#5 and Q#1.

I guess we're stupid. Thanks for enlightening us. I was swayed by better prices and customer service. But hey, if the line is shorter that must mean it's clearly the better store.

Reading comprehension is your friend. I said I have never been there, and was asking what the draw was.

Yes, you asked "what the draw" was by employing profanity (WTH) and using the presumption that people endured excessive lines for the sake of getting lower gas prices and no other reason.

My comprehension was fine. Your question was condescending.

Uh, no. You need to chill out.

How could I be condescending toward people on a subject (Frys) that I know nothing about? I said I have never been there, and asked why people obviously overwhelmingly prefer Fry's over Bashas. Since I have never been there, and have been in this town for less than a month, I would have no idea what the draw was- hence my inquistive post.

Which side you going to take when your back is against the wall in the Food Revolution????

Joking aside, I really do not like Bashas much, I think the selection is moderate, and the prices are not that great. Frys has more of what we need, and they also have great Sushi, and the clearance table is my favorite. You never know what you will find, we have been collecting a serving set for almost a year now, every once and awhile they put out another matching piece.

ahhhhhh! not really, I think it was your "WTH" that set things off!

I shop both depending on who has the best sale price on beer!

Fry's does have a whole lot more household items, inexpensive indoor and outdoor furniture, grills, a small nursery, pottery, large selection of toys including bicycles, gas and most important IMO DSCU!

Well Nancy..I don't think it is a touchy subject at all. I think the way you posted your supposed inquisitive question is what is touchy.

First off, using acronyms (i.e.: WTH) that use harsh words while asking such a question is not  inquisitive but a put down. It puts one in the defensive mood. For a person who has NEVER been there before, you use such harsh words to, as you put it, find out what is so special. Maybe if you asked a bit nicer you wouldn't have been ripped a new one.

Second, you repeatedly put you have NEVER been there. Well if you want to know what is SO great and special about it , then make a trip there. Being able to get 10 cents extra off of gas is a plus but that is not the only reason my family shops there. For you to assume that is the only reason, as you have said and I quoted above, is absurd.

So with that said...WTH is so great about BASHA'S??? I have shopped at both stores.  IS paying higher prices for the same product worth a parking spot up front? Or getting out in less than 5 min? I agree with the poster who said they have only waited 15/20 max. Even at the busiest times, I have waited no more than 20 min max.

I've never waited longer than 10 minutes at Fry's, but then again the self checkout line doesn't intimidate me, either. I save about 10-12% over Basha's on everyday purchases, and when I'm shopping specials my receipt reads "You saved 52%".

Then I get 3 or more fill-ups at 7-10 cents a gallon LESS than I can pay at Love's.

And to top it off, Fry's 'store brands' are at least as good as ANY name-brand product.

I shop at both places....about 90% of the time at Fry's. Basha's has good sales, and I prefer to buy my meat there when I can't make it into Costco. I have to agree with Guy - I have never spent more than 10 minutes waiting in line at Fry's. I like Fry's food selection over Basha's, and I get get household stuff for less than Basha's without driving into town to go to Target or WalMart. The 10 cents off gas is a nice bonus considering that I work and live in Maricopa, so I always get the discount. Also, as Guy said, there is nothing wrong with the Kroger or Private Selection brands. As a matter of fact, there are some things that I prefer the "generic" brand of. I watch sales at both places. Every couple of weeks or so Bashas has something that gets me in there. And in the morning, if I want something sweet, Basha's has better donuts than Frys. To each their own I suppose....

Well said Reina. I also shop at both stores, but tend to lean more toward Fry's. I think Fry's is cheaper is more ways than one. Although, I do tend to go to Bashas if I see something in the ad that I think is a good deal, or if I am in a hurry and need to hurry in and out of the store because there is hardly ever a wait at Bashas, and parking isn't such a hassle most of the time, due to the store being so busy like it is at Fry's.

Nancy,

First off you have to understand you live near a bunch of sensitive babies who just like to complain alot. The bottom line is, Frys is cheaper. When Walmart opens, frys will be empty. Everytime I go to Bashas I feel like I've been date raped and didnt even get dinner or a reach around.

Bwahahaha! That was awesome. I go to Bashas because it's closer, but their meats suck. Amen to WalMart opening! I cannot wait! Don't think I'll be there on the first day though... it'll be like the biggest welfare payday in the history of AZ...

I like Fry's because it seems cheaper, and most of their store brand items are as good as name brand products. I used to be wary of buying store brand stuff, but in the last couple years I have slowly been trying out Kroger/Fry's products one at a time to see what's good or if I notice a difference in taste. I recently realized that most of my pantry now has store brand stuff, and it tastes the same. I feel I can save money this way without sacrificing quality. I can also check out regular household stuff while I'm there; we got a nice patio set on sale there recently. I go to Basha's sometimes if I just need to run in and get alcohol or something. The covered parking is nice, though.

I used to go to Safeway when I lived in Chandler. In fact I used to hate Fry's, only because I went to the one on Cooper and Warner and encountered a very rude cashier, which made me shop exclusively at Safeway. However, my fiance is picky sometimes and said he hated Safeway milk for some reason, and they only had one brand, so I slowly started shopping at Fry's for the convenience. However, I still hate the Cooper and Warner store, lol.
