I work from home 3 days a week. I used to be in the office full time and when I went on maternity leave was set up so that I could work from home while on leave (there was no one else to do the accounting). I started having daycare issues and rather than lose me as an employee my boss agreed to let me work from home 3 days a week. I'm kept busy those days because I'm with my 2 boys. I'm looking into being some sort of freelance bookkeeper though- I could use some extra money and maybe even turn it into a full time business. I just have to figure out how to do it.

I too work at home..also, on east coast time. I have been with them for a while, and when I moved to Arizona 4 yrs ago, I was able to keep my job, and work from home.

I do enjoy working in pj's, no makeup, hair pulled back in a messy ponytail.....until the doorbell rings!!! UUUGGGH......That's when I make the promise to myself to get up and shower and get dressed first...yeah right, that lasts about 1 day.The 3 'clock nap is the best....until someone from the office remembers that you are 3 hours behind them, and calls for information they need on a project they are working on, and says "sorry to bother you, but I am in a bind and really need to get this info".

I will say, I really miss the occasional lunch hour out of the office...Opening the fridge and pulling out leftover cold spaghetti doesn't quite cut it....Maybe we should get together a home office lunch group once a month?

I also have to handle all my hubby's paperwork for our business...that gets done whenever i have a spare minute.Thank the Lord for unlimited coffee and online forums....Actually, my job keeps me quite busy, and I rarely have time to do anything else. On a good day, I might be able to keep from getting bored by taking a 15 min. break every couple of hours. Maybe grab a cup of joe and water the flowers on the patio, or empty the dishwasher, or fold some clothes.

I also have conversations with my dogs all day long. They are very good listeners, and never argue!

I guess the only real drawback is that you do loose touch with the real world.  The savings in fuel,  time not spent in traffic, and not having to find the right outfit for the day.....priceless!

I hear you on that moment of panic when the doorbell rings...worst is when it's in the am and I'm still not dressed so just throw on whatever I see laying around. I wonder what people think of me when I answer the door looking like a total trainwreck

Also having coworkers and clients who know what time zone I'm on (and sometimes trying to take advantage of that), my advice would be to go dark at a certain point in the day -no emails and don't pick up the phone. Not to say never help someone out, but it is easy for that to become a habit and find yourself working 12 hour days consistently.

And I think for all of us working at home, talking to pets is a common theme. I must say though having the pooch around does give a nice feeling of having company even minus the conversation. I'm still waiting for him to respond one day when I'm asking why my clients are such a pain in the ass

It does seem like there a bunch of us in this boat so a monthly lunch out somewhere local could be good. Anyone else interested?

I'm in for a lunch. Anything to make myself get out of the house. Sometimes I beg to get out and sometimes I hate going out.

The doorbell thing...absolutely. I think the delivery people just expect to see me in my jammies now. I save so much on hair care products - no need to buy hair spray every month when a can will last me a good year.

I do miss dressing up for my husband. He says he doesn't mind and doesn't notice - yea right. I try to put on regular clothes, curl my hair and do the make-up thing at least once a week. It helps.

So when is our first lunch?

The best present ever! A day at the Phoenix Zoo as a Zookeeper. Feeding the giraffs was one of the most exciting parts of the day.

I work from home!  I absolutely love it!!  I just moved here from Texas, where I worked in a traditional office setting.  I had a nice office but those walls could not drown out all the loud mouths.  I think people must have thought I was the office therapist - everyone wanted to talk to me about their problems.  SO - I love working from home and not having to deal with any of that.  Most of my clients are east coast or central time so I have to be up and ready by 4:30-5:00 a.m. and I usually "try" to stop working around 4:00 (our time).  I sure wish I had the time to clean my house during that time - just no way.  I would love to meet for lunch - I am new to this state and a few friends would be great!  Tomorrow is so bad for me.  How about Monday?  Anyone?

This thread is too funny! I have been working from home since 2003, I love it much more than i hate it, that is for sure! I love the 2pm nap in the now designated "Nap Room"...the 10AM shower. Nice homemade lunches, maybe some xbox 360 or some Wii, how about an passive game of Chess on the computer!

I just got back from some client visits and an stop-by at one of our offices in FL and let me tell people in an office waste much more time that I do - I am sure of it! Office visits, coffee breaks, chatting, chatting, chatting.

My biggest problem is that I am always working, I start real early and all throughout the evening I am popping in to send an email, finish up a project, etc. I guess now with Blackberries and Laptops that would probably be the same whether i worked in an office or not.

Keep me posted on the monthly lunch - great idea.

Yep, I feel like I am always working, pretty much constantly from about noon to 6 or 7 pm. Then I make dinner, then usually race back to the computer and finish something up. I always have my Blackberry on me or work on my laptop if my fiance wants to watch a movie with me, lol. The good thing is that if I don't have a deadline, I can choose to not work that day if I don't feel like it. I just have to make it up the next day....:/

maybe lunch next friday, 12:30, teakwoods? Try and make it a first week of the month thing?

Wish there were more choices out here in terms of places to go but teakwoods seems as good as any I guess...

Me too! I work from home and I thought it was my own best kept secret!

LOL, yes, when the doorbell rings at 11:05 am I totally panic. I also throw on whatever I can grab...that dusty old cardigan from the coat closet that never gets opened since we moved from Oregon 3 years ago. I'm sure that the UPS person thinks I'm some alcoholic trophy wife (Ha, joke) who just woke up.

I do get to escape town and get out of the house when I visit clients, which breaks up the week and allows me to put on my grown up clothes. I'm an account manager for a national company, so we don't have local offices. I like the tax write offs and that I can take care of erands when I need to. I'll never go back to the 8-5 in the office. Can't even imagine that!

I am pretty good about ignoring the piled up laundry and dirty floors and sticking to work :-) I have lunch with another account manager at my company who lives here in town. I go tanning (bad for me) or I IM my sister and catch up with the details of life back in Portland.

I don't know enough people here in town, so let me know if you guys plan a lunch and I'll bring my colleague too!

Greetings,

I work from home as well and I am excited to hear there are folks like me who don't get dressed, wash their hair and take afternoon siestas!!!!

I am a jewelry designer and artist.  Havent worked a straight job in 20 years.  Well, with the exception of a 4 year stent owning my own store in WA. During that time I produced and sold organic bath and body goods while doing the jewelry on the side. We relocated here 2 months ago and jewelry has taken a forefront in my life again, while the organics are becoming a sideline.

My husband works a straight job and works evenings. I have 2 cats which are great listeners and enjoy the hookah as much as I do.

I would love to join you folks for lunch at teakwoods on Friday if that is still on!!!

Just let me know.

My I ask, who do you work for. I am a new mother that went to work after my six weeks and I am thinking of working from home but I have not seen anything legit(work from home jobs). Any ideas or suggestions?
