Alert | Been living in Maricopa for about a year and working from home. Love the convenience, flexibility and certainly don't miss a commute to Phoenix. I work east coast hours so on a good day, I'm done by 3PM. That's all good but I gotta say it's been getting a little boring here lately. Too hot to do much outside and not a ton to do here in copa period. Anyone in a similar situation? Have any suggestions? I mean I read, take a swim, exercise, go to the bar and catch a mets game once in a while but after that not much else to do. Maybe I just need a good hobby...

Alert | I'm a scientific consultant that works out of a home office and most of my clients are on the east coast or overseas somewhere. I know the "what time is it there?" conundrum well.
Working from a home office is great; way better than showing up at the office every day. Once skilled you will be able to wear the same T-shirt and underpants and never leave your house for a week. You will become way more "green" and will make Al Gore jealous with all the gas you save and the lower amounts of phosphates and bleach you spill into the environment.
I suggest you nurture the skill of "nap time". Seriously. Every day at 3 get comfy on the couch, turn on MSNBC or CNN (no movies or anything with a laugh track because they demand too much attention), pull the old blanky over yourself and drift off into that wonderful sub-sleep mode.
This suspended consciousness state will last until your spouse calls to say hi, or the telemarketer reminds you that the interest rates on your credit cards can be lowered. One of these events will happen each time you nap-out. It is one of the cosmic mysteries as to why this happens, but it is apparantly natures way of providing a fail safe "time to get up" stimulus which will keep you from forgetting to start supper before your spouse gets home
Another strategy I use is "solitaire meditation". Play a lot and keep statistics. Start from zero each month and see how your winning percentages change as the seasons do. Change card appearance often. Learn to use a roller-ball instead of a mouse. WAY better!
Buy an Apple computer (unless you are already among the enlighteded.... if so you already know the electronic secret handshake and we can share a nod and a wink) and get into all the cool Mac stuff. This makes home-computing fresh and offers many enjoyable hours of concentrated frustration. It gives you something to do.
Lastly I suggest joining as many internet forums as possible and take advantage of the time-wasting potential these sites offer. eerrrrrrrrr, never mind. Obviously you have already committed to doing this! ;-)~

Alert | | Well my fiance and I both work from home so I am rarely bored because he always wants me to play a video game with him or watch a movie. In fact, I have to remind him that just because he is done working doesn't mean I am, lol. That said, I do have to get out once in a while so I work a few times a week at a local restaurant, which keeps things interesting. I also post on forums, read, play video games, and smoke hookah while watching several episodes of streaming tv shows in one day. These all seem to take up an adequate amount of time.

Alert | I just moved here around 2 months ago and I work from home. I was in the office in CO for 5 years and this is the first time I have actually worked full time from home and I would never want to change it. I really do like the fact that I can see my kids all day and enjoy my home rather than come home from work and not have much time before bedtimes, etc. The main downfall for me is that I don't get much exercise like before when I was actually out and about and could just stop at the gym. I don't have a home gym and, as you said, it's too hot to just go outside and run or something. Yeah yeah, I need to get off my lazy ass and get to the gym. Working on it! Could use a workout partner if anyone is interested. Oh, and as for a pro.... I like RichTig's comment for sure! I also play a lot of online poker.

Alert | thanks for the good feedback so far. Good idea richtig but I'm scared I might develop tennis elbow or something similar
Otherwise I already have a mac, but definitely more I can do with it. Sleep is always good. A second job would get me out of the house and make me some money. And sitting around in my underwear smokin a hookah while playing online poker and doing situps also sounds like a plan!

Alert | Wow, If I got to work from home, my house would be spotless, laundry done, plants watered, dishes done, house dusted, all that stuff. I dont think I could run out of things to do. Not to mention the boxes that I still have not opened because I dont have the time to sit down and go through them. I'm jealous!

What do you both do that you can stay home? Just curious....... He owns a web design company and I am a freelance writer working for 4 different companies right now. I have plenty to write, and it seems like not enough time in the day sometimes (I'm on lunch break right now lol).

I'm jealous! Not if you actually had stuff to work on.My house is usually clean because I just do a little here and there when I go out to get a drink or take a break. I love working from home, and am not envious of the commute most people have. However, sometimes I envy those with a "regular" job because you get paid by the hour or on salary, whereas I get paid by the project. If I work for 6 hours in a day, there is no chatting with other people, and no breaks. I have to get it done, and I get paid the same whether it takes me 3 hours or 12. So I am just screwing myself over if I don't work one day, or am slow. :/

Alert | This is absolutely hilarious and oh so true in so many ways. I work from home too. Never knew so many people out here had the privilege. I've been working from home for 2 years now. There was definitely a huge learning period for me. I love the flexibility, waking up at 7:50am and getting to the office at 8:00am - teeth brushed, hair back and even maybe some breakfast already. The hardest part for me was being alone all day. Unless I had to make a conference call or business call it was just lonely me and my wonderful Bailey Bean - doggy. It got a little strange when I noticed how much I talked to Bailey and didn't have anything left to tell my husband when he got home. Since I've made some great friends who either work from home or own their own business and we go out to lunch or get our nails/pedis done every once in a while. Still I get lonely sometimes but there is always the couch calling, the ball to throw with Bailey, the pool that looks so tantalizing or a good trip to Fry's to finally get out of the house. There have been weeks where I've never even left the house. Outside yes but left the actual house/perimeter no. Anyway, good luck and have fun. | | The best present ever! Alert | That's a great idea. A networking/support group for boredom could be good. Would be nice if there was a decent coffee shop/restaurant or bar with free wifi to work at once or so a week. But I don't think any local places fit the bill. And no the couch next to the coffee stand in fryes probably doesnt cut it though i think they do have free internet there...

Alert | | Check out www.alpineaccess.com its inbound call center to your home. I do not know if they are hiring but 3 years ago they were paying 9.00 to start. I worked for 1800 flowers through them and really liked it and they many different shifts to choose from.

Alert | | I would love some info about the companies you all work for that allow you to be at home. I have a fantastic job that requires a lot of travel around the state, but I am pregnant and would like to put an end to all the travel once the baby comes. Any info about places hiring? | | "Nobody cares if you're miserable, so you might as well be happy"

Your post was delightful, humorous, and informative (cough). It was a joy to read, and I want you to know I did take notes.
