Alert | Is anyone walking their kids to Butterfield from Senita. I know there is no light, but intersections are unmarked crosswalks. Any chance they are putting a crossing guard, or a cop out there to assist pedestrians across? I'm not driving 2/10th of a mile, and I'm not putting my kid on a bus for 45 seconds. That's stupid. Seriously. My plan is to walk. Has anyone else put any thought into it?

Alert | | Yes, I will be walking my kids to and from school. I truely cannot believe that the school district hasn't figured out that not having a crosswalk, crossing guard or light at the Senita entrance or anywhere to cross Honeycutt Rd will be ok!!! Someone will get hurt in the process...there are way too many kids crossing to not have an accident! This morning a gentleman from the construction company that built the school was actually helping stop the traffic for the people crossing. This is crazy! I hope they figure this out quick so that no one gets hurt P.S there will be a publis safety commitee meeting this Monday the 18th @ 5:30 pmdown at city hall that addresses these types of issues. Maybe if all the concerned parents show up and make this issue known they will do something quicker! I will be there!

Alert | | They had a crossing guard out this morning to cross Honeycutt near the school, which of course you probably already know if you walked your kids to school! =)

Alert | I heard they didn't. I heard that some construction guy ran out to stop traffic for parents. Was there definitely a crossing guard in front of Butterfield, to help kids get across Honeycutt?

Alert | | NO there wasn't a crossing guard!! Good attention to detail. It was a gentleman from the construction company that built the school who was crossing people out of the kindness of his heart. No official school crossing guard. He also remarked that he wouldn't be crossing people every morning. He said he saw people trying to get across and took it upon himself to help.

Alert | IIRC, Crossing guards are VOLUNTEERS.. not paid employees...
How about one of you lovely Senitian parents volunteer instead of complaining and blaming the school...
Or do one better.. write City Council and demand they install the stop light that is going there sooner...
Just a thought...

Alert | Sand Slinger, I love your angry enthusiasm. But we can't just throw on yellow shirts and run around in intersections stopping cars. If you read the OP, the question was are there going to be crossing guards or cops out there? The answer at this point is obviously no.
Again, trying to find a solution, not fuel the problem. But if the problem was already fixed, I'd be pretty stupid to sit here and complain about it, huh?

Alert | I'm not angry.. lol..
just providing a solution to your problem..
This really is a City issue.. they need to build the stop light...
The school provides transportation to/from Senita (whether or not you use it), there part is essentially done.. I THINK Butterfield has plans to put another crosswalk on Honeycut... but again, it's the Cities responsibility to put a stop light there..
Do you think the school would have a heartache if a parent volunteered to act as a crossing guard? Hell, they'd probably provide you a yellow vest and a stop sign..
have you cared to ask?
I walked the kiddies to school this morning.. I am almost certain the crossing guards there volunteered to do that.. I could be wrong...

Hmmm.... I was wondering why he didn't have a stop sign...

Alert | If the district is offering transportation across Honeycutt, they are doing their job. MOST districts in the valley will provide transportation across main arteries. . . If you choose to not use the district provided transportation (which I understand choosing not to if you live close-by) then the responsiblity falls to you, the parents, and is not the district or city's responsibility.
I did drive past there today and thought it was a bit strange that there were no school zone signs - I had expected them, however, upon reading that the district IS providing a safe way to school I do not disagree with their actions.

Alert | Ummm. OK. There is a light that has been approved. It will be in a year from now. That will include crossing guards... a year from now. People, including myself, have contacted those involved and they have stated that nothing will be done because a bus is provided now. Offers for volunteer crossing guards by myself were flatly rejected. The person that helped out this morning was a "Good Samaritan" (LOL, my words, from another site, along with shots of this good person helping out because he felt he could help)
There is a council meeting coming up. many in that meeting are very aware of this issue.
Soooo.... Who will attend? My son is involved and we will be there. Will you? If you can't attend will you follow it on TV?
