It's bad news for the kid and his team, but honestly it seems like these folks are just heading off an accident before it happens. What kind of big deal would be made out of it if he were to continue to play and injured someone? He would be vilified, and that would be less fair than this, in my opinion.

Too bad they can't just put him on a team with older kids, or kids/people who are playing at his level. Seems a shame to waste an obvious natural talent.

Wisdom comes with age, but sometimes age comes alone.

I think the whole thing has gotten completely out of control. I would be willing to bet that there are some 9 year olds in Maricopa that can pitch a 40mph fastball with decent acuracy also. Any competing team should be glad to have that kid on the mound. Just like the slow cage at the batting cages (they are around 40 mph also) we call that batting practice. My fear would be for the kid pitching. If he is that much better than his teammates, his parents should be worried that the coaches would pitch him too much and injure his arm!

That's the way I feel.. and with their 8-0 record, that may very well be what was happening..

When I was playing that little, mid-40's were the average speed... then you had to deal with mid-60's when you went to the 12yo bracket!

Either way.. I think there is WAY more to this story than "boy can't play because he's too good"..

Consider these points:
1. This is a developmental league and not a competitive league.

2. The kid TURNED DOWN an offer to be on last years' division champs team to be on this one.

3. Last years' division champs were sponsored by an employer of one of the league administrators..

I think this kid is more of a pawn in some adults pissing contest...

Sad day indeed for kid sports...

Bionic Bunny, I totally agree. My son was throwing 50mph or more at 9 yrs old. I would be willing to bet that the majority of pitchers in Maricopa on the 9-10 year old teams threw at least 40.
